2027 Election: No Single Party Can Defeat Tinubu – Martin Onovo.

Former presidential candidate Martin Onovo has said that defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election will be nearly impossible

for any single opposition party. Onovo, who contested under the now-defunct National Conscience Party (NCP) in 2015, made the remarks in an interview in Lagos.

He emphasized that only a united coalition of opposition parties stands a real chance against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential race. Onovo praised ongoing efforts, particularly those led by former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, to build such a coalition, calling it a “step in the right direction.”

Drawing from his past experience in forming the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Onovo stressed that unity among opposition groups is the key to electoral success. “A united minority can defeat a divided majority,” he said, adding that if the coalition remains intact and avoids internal sabotage, it could convincingly win in 2027.

He was confident in the coalition’s potential, stating, “If they do it right, the APC will find it difficult to return to power.”

Reviewing the Tinubu administration’s performance midway through its term, Onovo expressed dissatisfaction with its progress in tackling insecurity and improving basic living conditions. He urged the president to focus the remaining years of his term on addressing these issues.

Onovo also advised Tinubu to replace political loyalists with qualified professionals in key government roles to ensure better governance and delivery on campaign promises. “We need the right people with the right strategies, especially in security and the economy,” he said, noting that leadership must prioritize results over loyalty.

Finally, he called on the president to intensify efforts to combat corruption and reduce inequality, which he identified as drivers of insecurity and social unrest.
