APC announces defection of Mutfwang from PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement was made by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yelwata, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Yelwata, who is also from Plateau State, said the governor’s defection means that the entire North-Central geopolitical zone is now governed by the APC. Although Governor Mutfwang was not present at the caucus meeting, speculations about his defection had intensified in recent weeks. Addressing party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC chairman said the increasing wave of defections reflected growing national acceptance of the ruling party. He urged party members to support the expansion drive ahead of the planned congresses and the next national convention scheduled for March 2026, subject to the approval of the National Executive Committee. Yelwata also announced the activation of an electronic membership registration system aimed at improving transparency, data integrity and internal democracy. He said the registration exercise would run through January, with January 30 set as the deadline for eligibility to participate in party congresses.
