Adamawa Launches Polio Vaccination Campaign Targeting 1.4 Million Children.

The Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ADPHCDA), with support from UNICEF, has begun a polio vaccination campaign aimed at immunizing over 1.4 million children.

At the launch event held in Malkohi, Yola South Local Government Area, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Local Government Affairs Commissioner Ibrahim Mijinyawa, emphasized the importance of protecting children’s health and future. He highlighted healthcare as a key priority of his administration and urged traditional leaders to encourage community participation.

UNICEF’s Chief of the Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, appealed to parents and caregivers to use the opportunity to help eradicate polio. She assured that the vaccine is both safe and effective, and reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to improving child health in the state and across Nigeria.

Yusuf Abdulkareem, the World Health Organization’s coordinator in Adamawa, also stressed the importance of routine immunisation in building strong immunity in children. He additionally called on the government to increase efforts to combat malaria.

District Head of Yola South, Zubairu Mustapha, thanked health partners for their support and pledged continued efforts in raising awareness and promoting child health in the community.
