Airline Operators Condemn Oshiomhole’s Conduct, Keyamo Orders Investigation.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have criticized the behavior o
f Senator Adams Oshiomhole at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, describing it as unacceptable and part of a rising trend of unruly conduct by airline passengers.
Professor Obiora Okonkwo, AON spokesperson, expressed concern that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had not yet provided a full account of the incident, which occurred two days prior.
Speaking at an event in Lagos, Okonkwo emphasized that while passengers have rights, these must align with the rules set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). He described Oshiomhole’s actions as an example of inappropriate behavior, stressing that it’s unjust to target Air Peace, a major domestic airline, which carries nearly half of the country’s air travelers.
No matter the disappointment, taking matters into your own hands is not acceptable,” Okonkwo said. “Air Peace is a respected airline, and criticizing it without reason is unfair. We’ve reviewed his statements and found them illogical. No airline benefits from denying service to its passengers.
In response, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed he has spoken with both parties involved and instructed aviation authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Keyamo stated, “I have asked the agencies not to rush to conclusions. All evidence must be reviewed so that we can address this in a way that sets a clear precedent for future incidents.
He also urged both sides to stop trading accusations in public while the investigation is ongoing.
