Aregbesola Urges ADC Supporters to Focus on Facts, Not Insults.
Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and interim national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has advised members of the party to avoid insults and verbal attacks when engaging with supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking after his return to Lagos from Abuja on Friday—following the official launch of the ADC—Aregbesola emphasized the importance of respectful political engagement. He thanked supporters who welcomed him at the airport and encouraged them to stay focused on meaningful debate.
“The task ahead is enormous,” he said in a message shared on his social media platforms. “We don’t need to fight or insult anyone. When provoked or attacked, respond with facts.”
Aregbesola urged party members to challenge opposing views by highlighting the real issues affecting Nigerians, such as inflation, economic hardship, and rising poverty. He stressed that political discussions should remain centered on solutions, not personal attacks.
He added, “Ask one simple question: Are Nigerians better off today than they were before? Let’s clearly explain why the ADC is a viable and necessary alternative for the country’s future.”
A former close ally of President Bola Tinubu, Aregbesola served in Tinubu’s administration as Lagos State Commissioner for Works. However, their political alliance fractured in 2022 after Aregbesola’s faction, ‘Omoluabi’, withheld support from Gboyega Oyetola, Tinubu’s nephew and then-Governor of Osun State, during his reelection campaign.
Instead, Aregbesola’s group backed Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who went on to win the election, ending Oyetola’s bid for a second term.
