Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, despite lingering interest from Real Madrid. Sources suggest the deal is nearly complete, with only the medical left to finalize.
Although Madrid had shown interest earlier in the year, Arsenal reportedly reached an agreement with Zubimendi around six months ago, giving them a significant head start. Spanish media have since tried to stir uncertainty around the transfer, hinting that the player may still be weighing his options. However, current indications are that Zubimendi remains committed to joining Arsenal.
The official announcement is expected no earlier than June 16, as the transfer window is temporarily closed ahead of the Club World Cup. Arsenal are also believed to be delaying the formal confirmation for financial planning purposes, aiming to register the deal in the next fiscal year. This could push the official start of Zubimendi’s Arsenal career to July 1, still well ahead of their pre-season tour in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid face tighter deadlines, having needed to finalize player registrations by June 10 in line with FIFA rules ahead of the Club World Cup. This may have limited their ability to make a late move for Zubimendi.
