Arsenal Prepare Improved Offer for Viktor Gyökeres Amid Transfer Dispute.
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a new bid for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres after their initial offer was turned down. The
Swedish forward, who scored 54 goals during the 2024/25 season and helped Sporting win a domestic double, is high on Mikel Arteta’s list of transfer targets, alongside Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig.
There had been speculation that Gyökeres had a verbal agreement with Sporting allowing him to leave for around £60 million (€70 million), but Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has denied this. According to Varandas, no official offer had been made for Gyökeres until recently, and no promise was ever made to let him leave for that fee.
Varandas explained that while the club had agreed not to demand the full £84 million (€100 million) release clause due to Gyökeres turning 27, Sporting is still seeking a minimum of £67.4 million (€80 million). The situation appears to have caused frustration for the player, who responded on social media by stating, “There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”
Reports suggest Arsenal have already submitted a bid worth £55 million (€65 million), including £8.4 million (€10 million) in performance-based add-ons. However, this falls short of Sporting’s new valuation.
According to Mais Futebol, Arsenal are now working on a new proposal that will exceed £59.7 million (€70 million), bringing them closer to Sporting’s demands and keeping their hopes alive of securing one of Europe’s most in-form strikers.
