While Newcastle’s Champions League qualification made Arsenal’s initial top target, Alexander Isak, an unrealistic option, attention has firmly shifted to two alternatives: Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko. Both players have been under close observation by Arsenal’s scouting team for more than a year, but Sesko has consistently been the leading candidate.

Berta’s arrival initially prompted a renewed look at Gyokeres. However, consensus has now formed around Sesko, with the decision largely driven by his playing style, which aligns more closely with Arteta’s tactical approach. Additionally, Sesko, at 22, has already proven himself in a top European league, whereas Gyokeres, 27, has faced aerial challenges in Portugal and carries more risk due to his age and potential resale value.

One year ago, Sesko’s release clause was significantly lower than Gyokeres’, reportedly just over half of the Swede’s €100 million price tag. Arsenal’s current focus is to reach an agreement with both RB Leipzig and Sesko to complete the transfer.
