Atiku, Obi Arrive in Abuja for Political Consultative Meeting.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi arrived in Abuja on May 25, 2025, to attend a meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North). Atiku shared a video of their arrival at the Abuja Continental Hotel, showing both men greeting stakeholders before the event.

In his address, Obi spoke about the challenges facing Northern Nigeria, emphasizing that poverty is at the root of the region’s insecurity. He argued that when people face hunger and desperation, their actions become difficult to control.

Obi highlighted the North’s potential to drive national development, particularly through agriculture. He compared Nigeria’s rice production to that of Bangladesh and pointed out that Northern states alone have enough land to surpass such countries in output. He stressed that Nigeria could earn more from agriculture than oil if the North’s resources are properly utilized.

He also addressed education challenges, particularly the plight of out-of-school children in the North, praising the intelligence of Almajiri children and advocating for mobile or accessible education tailored to their needs.

Obi called for unity and competence in leadership, urging Nigerians to move beyond religious divisions and support capable leaders. He criticized Nigeria’s dependency on foreign aid, such as grain from Ukraine, and emphasized that the North can solve many of the country’s problems if supported with the right investments and policies.

While the full scope of the meeting remains unclear, it is believed to be part of a broader coalition effort among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The event attracted notable political figures, including Rotimi Amaechi, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Adolphus Wabara, and others.
