Baba-Ahmed: Tinubu Is Isolated, Many Ministers Unfit for Governance.
Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Vice President, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing the president as increasingly isolated and out of touch with both his officials and the Nigerian people.
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Baba-Ahmed revealed that during his 18-month tenure in the Presidential Villa, he only saw President Tinubu three times—and only at the mosque. He said he never had a one-on-one conversation with the president, suggesting Tinubu was largely inaccessible to those working closely with him.
He warned that this detachment is a serious concern for national governance, as it limits the president’s ability to receive honest feedback. Baba-Ahmed expressed disappointment in the administration, noting that many close to Tinubu appear disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
Commenting on the federal cabinet, he claimed that more than half of Tinubu’s ministers are unqualified for their roles, saying they lack the expertise to handle critical national issues such as security, economic recovery, and rebuilding public trust.
He also addressed rumors that Vice President Kashim Shettima had been sidelined, stating instead that the office of the vice president has historically lacked clear responsibilities, a structural issue that predates the current administration.
Baba-Ahmed, who frequently engaged with Shettima, stressed that proximity alone is not enough to effect meaningful change. He described a country burdened by insecurity, economic hardship, and a loss of faith in democracy.
In an open letter, Baba-Ahmed urged President Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027 and to instead support a younger generation of leaders. He called on the president to use his remaining time in office to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians and to focus on creating a lasting, positive legacy.
He also criticized the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” calling it an unstructured list of campaign promises lacking a clear path for implementation.
Despite his criticisms, Baba-Ahmed distanced himself from emerging political movements, signaling his dissatisfaction with current political alignments and advocating for a fundamental shift in leadership direction.
