As Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury, he was doing media duties when news broke that Nic
o Williams had renewed his contract with Athletic Club until 2035—effectively ending speculation about a move to Barcelona.
When asked for his reaction, Bernal kept it respectful and professional.
“Nico’s extending his contract? What can I say? He’s a good player, but that’s not my concern,” Bernal said. “I focus on my teammates and the players who are part of this club. Congratulations to him on the extension.”
Bernal’s composed response comes as he prepares for a return to the pitch after nearly a year on the sidelines. His comeback is expected to strengthen Barcelona’s midfield options.
Meanwhile, with Williams no longer a transfer option, Barcelona is reportedly revisiting interest in Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
