Benue Killings: Police, Military Chiefs Visit Affected Communities.
In response to the recent wave of deadly attacks in Benue State, Nigeria’s Inspector-General
of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, visited the state on Monday.
Their visit follows violent assaults by suspected herders on Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area over the weekend, with reports indicating a death toll of around 200.
IGP Egbetokun and CDS Musa were joined by senior security officials to assess the situation and show solidarity with the victims. During a meeting with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the IGP described the attacks as “senseless” and acts of terrorism. He assured the governor of intensified efforts to restore security and bring those responsible to justice.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi noted that the IGP emphasized the deployment of personnel and tactical support, reaffirming the police’s commitment to ending the violence.
General Musa also visited Yelwata, one of the hardest-hit areas, to evaluate the aftermath of the coordinated attacks that occurred Friday night. His presence signaled the military’s readiness to tackle the growing threat of armed violence in the region.
