CAC Launches AI-Powered Registration Portal, Promises Business Registration in Under 30 Minutes.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has introduced a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven registration portal designed to simplify and speed up business registration in Nigeria.

At the 2025 CAC Stakeholders Forum in Port Harcourt, Registrar-General and CEO Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, revealed that the pilot AI-powered portal represents a major upgrade to the existing Company Registration Portal (CRP).

The portal offers instant name reservations and intelligent suggestions if a preferred name is unavailable. Magaji compared the ease of reserving a business name to creating an email account, noting the AI system enables real-time approvals.

Business owners can now begin registration using only the National Identification Number (NIN) of a director or proprietor. Once the NIN is verified, the system can generate and email the registration certificate within 30 minutes.

While occasional delays due to verification with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) might occur, CAC has developed an AI-based photo ID matching backup to minimize such setbacks.

Magaji described the AI portal as a transformative step that enables faster, smarter, and more reliable services, aiming to improve Nigeria’s business environment.

Additional upcoming innovations include Two-Factor Authentication and OTP verification for all transactions, ensuring no unauthorized changes are made to company records without directors’ consent.

A CAC Mobile App is also planned for release in late 2025, allowing users to conduct transactions, track applications, and access company information via mobile devices.

Magaji also announced a revision of certain service fees, effective August 1, 2025, to support ongoing technological investments and maintain high service standards.

The event featured remarks from notable industry leaders, including representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.
