Canada Returnee Sentenced to Three Months for Assaulting KAI Official in Lagos.
A 52-year-old man, Morufudeen Idowu, who recently returned from Canada,
has been sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting a Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) official at Ojota.
The incident occurred when Idowu attempted to cross the Ojota expressway in violation of Lagos State’s pedestrian safety rules. A KAI officer tried to stop him, prompting Idowu to react violently.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the assault took place during routine enforcement efforts to curb illegal road crossing. Wahab, in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, confirmed that Idowu resisted arrest and attacked the official carrying out his lawful duties.
Following his arrest, Idowu was arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Oshodi, where he was convicted and sentenced to a three-month jail term.
The incident happened near the Ojota pedestrian bridge, a hotspot for enforcement due to frequent pedestrian-related accidents on the expressway.
