Dangote Lowers Ex-Depot Petrol Price to ₦840 Per Litre.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of petrol from ₦880 to ₦840 per litre. This adjustment, confirmed by the ref

inery’s spokesperson Tony Chiejina, took effect on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Following this price drop, petrol stations with agreements with Dangote Refinery, including MRS Oil & Gas, Ardova Plc, and Heyden, are expected to lower their pump prices below ₦900 to reflect the reduced ex-depot cost.

The ₦40 price cut follows a decline in global oil prices, linked to the easing of the two-week conflict between Israel and Iran. The ceasefire saw Brent crude oil prices fall slightly to \$67.61 per barrel.

On June 15, 2025, the Lagos-based refinery announced plans to distribute petrol and diesel free of charge to marketers, dealers, and major consumers nationwide. It also revealed the procurement of 4,000 new CNG-powered tankers to begin operations on August 15, 2025.

Additionally, Dangote Refinery offered a credit facility allowing purchasers of at least 500,000 litres to obtain an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks, backed by bank guarantees.

However, this expansion has faced criticism from petrol marketers and truck operators, who argue it could undermine depot owners and retail outlets with existing supply agreements.

For many years, Nigeria’s state refineries were non-functional, making the country heavily reliant on imports, primarily through the state-run NNPC. Since the subsidy removal in May 2023, petrol prices have surged from about ₦200 to nearly ₦1,000 per litre, exacerbating challenges for citizens who rely on petrol for vehicles and generators amid ongoing electricity supply issues.
