Danny Murphy Says Chelsea Made a Mistake Letting Jadon Sancho Go.
Former England midfielder Danny Murphy believes Chelsea made the wrong decision by not signing Jadon Sancho permanently
. Instead of activating the £25 million option to buy, the club chose to pay Manchester United a £5 million fee to cancel the deal.
Sancho spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Chelsea, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists in 42 appearances. Despite helping the team win the UEFA Conference League, he started only 19 Premier League matches under manager Enzo Maresca.
Reports suggest Chelsea were initially interested in keeping him, but talks broke down over personal terms. With one year left on his contract at Manchester United, Sancho’s future remains uncertain.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy expressed disappointment at Chelsea’s decision, saying Sancho performed reasonably well and could have benefited from more time to develop. Meanwhile, fellow pundit Simon Jordan criticized the winger for underachieving and questioned his priorities, claiming he seems more focused on his salary than reviving his England career.
Sancho hasn’t played for the national team since 2021, and with his club future unclear, speculation continues about his next move.
