Death Toll Hits 56 in Benue as Governor Seeks Federal Intervention
The death toll from recent attacks in Benue State has risen to 56, following violent invasions by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo local government areas.
Governor Hyacinth Alia visited the affected communities on Saturday to assess the damage and express solidarity with the victims. He met with local leaders and residents, offering reassurance and pledging enhanced efforts to protect lives and property.
During his visit, the governor called on the Federal Government to take decisive action to end the ongoing violence across the state. He described the attacks as a heartbreaking tragedy for innocent families.
Governor Alia urged residents to remain peaceful and avoid retaliatory actions while security agencies work to restore order.
In response to the crisis, the state government has increased the security presence in the Sankera region, which covers the affected areas. Emergency relief, including food and essential supplies, has also been dispatched to support displaced families.
Authorities are continuing efforts to prevent further violence and bring stability back to the region.
