Debbie Shokoya: My Friends Accused My Husband of Hypnotising Me.
Nigerian actress and producer Debbie Shokoya has shared a personal story of betrayal, revealing that some of her former friends accused her husband of using “jazz” (charms) to manipulate her.
Speaking on the Iriri Podcast with Bimpe Akintunde, Debbie reflected on the hurt she experienced when people she once trusted turned against her. Despite the pain, she said she now views their absence from her life as a blessing.
According to her, she has found peace and support through her husband, daughter, and both families, and believes that the separation from her former friends was divinely orchestrated to protect her.
“Those I considered close friends were the same people who claimed I was hypnotised by my husband,” she said. “I used to trust them, but now I see I have no one left from that circle and I’ve accepted that.”
She added, “My husband is my best friend. I have my daughter, my family, and his family. That’s all I need. Looking back, I understand that God removed those people for a reason. If they had stayed, they might have created problems in my marriage.”
Debbie concluded by saying she has let go of trying to control everything and fully placed her trust in God. “I told God at the start of the year that I would surrender it all to Him and He has brought clarity and purpose to my life,” she said.
