Edo South Senator Neda Imasuen to Join APC on.
Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South in the Senate, has announced plans to leave the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12. He cited internal instability within the LP as a key reason for his defection.
Speaking in Benin during an event marking his second year in office, Imasuen said the move is meant to align Edo South with federal government priorities, particularly under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Imasuen currently chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
Describing his switch as a strategic decision, not driven by personal gain, the senator outlined several achievements from his time in office. These include sponsoring the bill to establish the Federal College of Education in Abudu, resolving over 20 public petitions, and implementing multiple community-focused programs.
He highlighted initiatives such as vocational training, agricultural support, and rural health efforts, including the training of traditional birth attendants. He also mentioned educational scholarships provided to students in his constituency.
The internal challenges within the Labour Party are making it difficult to fulfill my goals for Edo South,” he said. “Joining the APC will better position us to attract federal development to our region.
Imasuen called for improved collaboration with local governments to sustain constituency projects and reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, healthcare, and rural development.
On agriculture, he stressed its importance to national sustainability, pointing out that efforts in Edo South have included training farmers and boosting production in crops like rubber, cocoa, and cashew.
Farmers in our region are already seeing better yields thanks to these programs,” he said.
