Eid-el-Kabir: CAN President Greets Muslims, Urges Unity and Compassion.
Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)
, has extended warm greetings to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Kabir, emphasizing the importance of peace, mutual respect, and national unity during the festive period.
In a message delivered Friday, Okoh highlighted the shared values of both faiths, noting that Eid-el-Kabir—also known as the Festival of Sacrifice—teaches lessons of sacrifice, love, and kindness, similar to Christian teachings. He encouraged Nigerians of all religions to embrace the spirit of togetherness.
On behalf of the CAN leadership, I send heartfelt wishes to our Muslim brothers and sisters as you mark this important festival,” he said. “Eid-el-Kabir reminds us of Abraham’s faith and obedience, and calls us to show love, compassion, and solidarity with one another.”
Okoh urged citizens to use the season to promote unity and build stronger relationships across religious divides, saying, “When we celebrate together, we prove that unity is stronger than division.”
He also expressed sympathy with the people of Mokwa in Niger State, who were affected by recent flooding. Offering condolences to families who lost loved ones and homes, Okoh assured them of CAN’s readiness to assist.
CAN encourages churches and individuals to support victims with food, clothing, money, and prayers. We’re committed to working with the government and other organizations to provide necessary help,” he added.
He acknowledged the efforts of emergency workers and volunteers, commending their resilience and commitment to helping those in distress. “Let this season of sacrifice inspire us to reach out, uplift one another, and pray for peace in Nigeria.”
Archbishop Okoh concluded by wishing Muslims a joyful celebration and reaffirmed CAN’s continued prayers for healing and restoration in Niger State. He also called on Nigerians to demonstrate love, help the needy, and work together to build a better, united nation.
