Enzo Maresca Nears Reunion with Liam Delap as Chelsea Close in on Key Transfer.

Chelsea are on the verge of signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap after activating his £30 million release clause, following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 21-year-old had attracted in

terest from multiple Premier League and European clubs, but has opted to join Chelsea. His decision was influenced by the club’s playing style, the strength of the current squad, and belief in the team’s ability to compete for major trophies.

The move would reunite Delap with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him—and fellow Chelsea player Cole Palmer—during their time in Manchester City’s development squad.

Maresca has long praised Delap’s potential. In a 2020 interview while at City, he spoke about the young forward’s development, highlighting the motivation young players get from seeing teammates reach the first team.

Reflecting on his work with Delap and Palmer, Maresca said, “The most important thing is for the lads to train professionally and with intensity. I’d be happy if I can help them improve and play a meaningful role in their careers.
