EXCLUSIVE: Wike Accused of Allocating Billions in Abuja Land to His Sons.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is facing serious allegations of allocating massive plots of Abuja land—estimated at billions of dollars in value—to his sons, raising concerns about corruption and abuse of office.
According to documents reviewed by Peoples Gazette, Wike has allocated at least 1,740 hectares of land—worth about $2.85 billion—to his first son, Jordan Wike, over the past year. This is in addition to 2,082 hectares already allocated to his second son, Joaquin Wike, in a previous land deal exposed by the outlet. In total, the Wike family has received 3,822 hectares of land, with an estimated combined value of $6.45 billion.
Many of the lands reportedly handed to the minister’s sons were confiscated from previous owners under vague claims of non-compliance with land regulations. Senior officials say this marks one of the boldest examples of self-enrichment by a public servant in Nigeria’s history.
Controversial Approvals
The Gazette found that both sons received lands through companies—Jordan Farms and Estates Ltd and Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd—which were registered on the same day and to the same address long linked to Mr. Wike. In some cases, land documents were allegedly picked up by his personal aides.
Among the allocations:
158 hectares in Sheretti Cheche
12 hectares in Maitama
10 hectares in Guzape
A confiscated plot formerly allocated to the Austrian Embassy in Central Area
In the case of the Austrian Embassy land, records show it was reallocated to a shell company, Hyper Communications Ltd, tied to Wike’s son. Other linked companies, such as Hyper Station Ltd, received additional lands in various locations, including Maitama, Gosa, Bwari, and Guzape.
Reduced Land Fees
Documents also revealed that Wike reduced or waived statutory land fees. For example, a required payment of ₦807 million for a land certificate in Sheretti Cheche was reduced to ₦100 million, yet only ₦10 million was reportedly paid.
Development to Increase Land Value
To increase the market value of these lands, Wike allegedly directed infrastructure projects to selected areas, such as building roads in Bwari, where his sons’ lands are located. This has raised further concerns that public resources are being used for private gain.
Response and Denial
Wike has denied wrongdoing. His spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, argued that the land allocations were legal and that the coincidence of names and addresses did not prove ownership by Wike’s sons. He also claimed that friends or relatives picking up documents did not confirm ownership.
However, documents reviewed by The Gazette, including WhatsApp conversations and driver’s licenses, appear to contradict these claims.
Political and Legal Implications
The revelations have sparked public outrage, with some officials urging President Bola Tinubu to take action. Although the presidency reportedly ordered an internal probe after an earlier exposé, details of that investigation have not been made public.
Anti-corruption agencies such as the EFCC and ICPC have yet to formally respond but are reportedly monitoring the situation. However, officials indicated that meaningful investigations may have to wait until Wike leaves office.
Critics say the case highlights long-standing issues of impunity among top officials and could damage public trust unless addressed swiftly.
