Fayose Vows to Oppose Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has stated that he will not support Atiku Abubakar if he decides to contest for president again in 2027.

Speaking in an interview on Politics Today, Fayose said, “I publicly opposed Atiku in 2023, and I will do so again if he contests in 2027. It’s time we learn from our past mistakes.”

Fayose highlighted that internal disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began when the decision was made to zone power back to the North after President Buhari’s tenure. He emphasized that it was unfair for the presidency to remain in the North after eight years and that power should rotate to the South, including the South East, South West, or South-South regions.

He stressed the importance of maintaining a mutual understanding on power rotation, even if people have differing opinions about southern politicians like Nyesom Wike or Peter Obi.

Reaffirming his stance from 2024, Fayose said, “I was completely against Atiku—not for personal reasons, but because the country’s interests come first. Nigeria is bigger than any political party.”

Fayose also criticized the PDP’s internal leadership, urging the party to prioritize accountability and fairness. “If a political party is not responsible, it will lead to rebellion and discontent,” he warned.

Looking ahead, Fayose mentioned that after President Tinubu’s tenure—if he serves a second term—it would be only fair for the next president to come from the South
