FBI Arrests Nigerian Tech Enthusiast Over Alleged Multi-Million Dollar Fraud.

Sapphire Egemasi, a Nigerian programmer known online as the “tech queen,” has been arrested by the FBI for her alleged role in a large-scale fraud scheme targeting U.S. government institutions.

Egemasi was taken into custody in April 2025 in the Bronx, New York, alongside other suspects, including Samuel Kwadwo Osei, a Ghanaian national believed to be the group’s leader.

The arrest follows a 2024 indictment by a U.S. federal grand jury, which accused the group of conducting internet fraud and laundering money between September 2021 and February 2023.

Prosecutors allege that the syndicate impersonated U.S. government websites to steal login credentials and redirect public funds. One of their major targets was the city of Kentucky. Investigators say Egemasi played a central role by developing the fake sites and coordinating financial transfers. In August 2022 alone, nearly \$1.3 million was allegedly moved into accounts at PNC Bank and Bank of America.

Before her arrest, Egemasi was reportedly living in Cambridge, UK, though authorities believe she previously resided in Ghana. She is suspected of using professional and social media profiles to create a false image of a legitimate career in tech. These included claims of internships at companies like BP, H\&M, and Zara, as well as photos from luxury vacations in Europe.

Egemasi and her co-defendants are currently in federal custody, awaiting trial in Lexington, Kentucky. If found guilty, they could each face up to 20 years in prison, financial penalties, and possible deportation after serving their sentences.
