FCT Ground Rent: Momodu Commends Tinubu, Criticizes Wike’s Approach.

Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former p

residential aspirant, has praised President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the mass sealing of properties in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration. Momodu criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of acting as though he were a co-president.

On Monday, the FCTA began sealing more than 4,000 properties over unpaid ground rents. Affected locations included the PDP national secretariat, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) offices, Access Bank, TotalEnergies, and Ibro Hotel in Wuse Zone. This action followed Wike’s directive to take possession of the defaulting properties.

However, later that evening, FCT Director of Land Administration Chijioke Nwankwoeze announced a two-week grace period for property owners to clear their outstanding rents and penalties, following President Tinubu’s intervention.

Momodu responded on Tuesday, acknowledging Tinubu’s decision and criticizing Wike’s conduct. He described Wike as a divisive figure and suggested the intervention was a necessary check on the minister’s growing influence.

No one should ignore legal obligations,” Momodu said, “but government actions must be measured and not vindictive. Wike is becoming a burden to your administration.

He also expressed disappointment over Wike’s role in the political crisis in Rivers State, blaming him for disrupting Governor Sim Fubara’s administration.

Momodu drew comparisons between Wike and other ministers, notably Minister of Works Dave Umahi, highlighting Umahi’s humility in contrast to Wike’s frequent public statements.

There can’t be two captains in one ship,” Momodu said, asserting that Tinubu’s move had reestablished leadership clarity in the federal government.
