Federal Government Begins Consumer Credit Distribution in Abia.

On June 26, 2025, the Federal Government officially laun

ched its consumer credit program in Aba, Abia State, targeting market women. The initiative is managed by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), a government-backed development finance institution dedicated to expanding consumer credit access.

At the event, CREDICORP’s Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba—represented by Executive Director of Credit and Portfolio Management, Aisha Abdullahi explained that the program aims to improve living standards and promote financial inclusion by offering interest-free loans of up to ₦2 million.

Rather than lending directly to individuals, CREDICORP is partnering with financial institutions, including Sytiamo Technologies Limited, to distribute the funds. According to Nwagba, applicants are not required to provide collateral but must submit their Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN), a passport photo, business address, and a guarantor’s letter.

Sytiamo’s Managing Director, Michael Ogba, said the company is working with Ariaria Main Market executives to distribute the funds efficiently and ensure repayment. He stated the goal is to empower around 20,000 traders in Abia and eventually reach one million market women nationwide.

Ogba noted the program’s initial rollout covers 100,000 beneficiaries across Nigeria and emphasized continued support for those who repay their loans. The initiative is expected to expand to other states.

Mike Anioji, Chairman of the Ariaria Main Market Association, praised the program and assured that the market leadership would support repayment efforts.

Some traders at the event confirmed receiving credit alerts after submitting applications the previous day, sparking celebration among attendees.
