FG, NLNG to Complete 27.1km Bonny Road in Rivers State.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is
working with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to fast-track the completion of the 27.1-kilometre Bonny Ring Road and bridges in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, made this known during a project inspection, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to completing the road alongside other projects in the region. The partnership, he noted, aligns with directives from President Bola Tinubu.
Dr. Ogbuku, accompanied by the Executive Director of Projects, Victor Antai, and other senior officials, also visited the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, to seek royal blessings ahead of the commission’s 25th anniversary celebration. The festivities will begin with a thanksgiving service in Ondo State on July 6, 2025.
Ogbuku announced plans to name the new NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt after the late Harold Dappa-Biriye, in recognition of his role in the Niger Delta struggle.
He emphasized that the NDDC is focused on improving lives in the region through needs-based projects and reaffirmed its commitment to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to Ogbuku, the commission is actively partnering with international oil and gas firms to support major infrastructure initiatives, including the Bonny Ring Road, the Kaa-Ataba Bridge, and the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge.
He added that the NDDC is not competing with state governments but rather complementing their development efforts. The road project, he said, is expected to reduce poverty and boost economic activity in the host and nearby communities.
The Bonny Ring Road and associated projects were included in the commission’s 2024 budget, with funding approved by President Tinubu to ensure completion of key legacy infrastructure across the Niger Delta.
