Fire Breaks Out at Hotel Housing Over 480 Nigerian Pilgrims in Mecca.

A fire erupted on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Imaratus Sanan H

otel in the Sharamansur area of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The hotel was accommodating 484 Nigerian pilgrims taking part in the 2025 Hajj under private tour arrangements.

Fortunately, all the pilgrims were safe at the time of the incident, as they had already departed for Mina to take part in the symbolic stoning ritual — a major part of the Hajj pilgrimage. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Fatima Usara. Thanks to the rapid response from Saudi emergency services and hotel staff, the fire was contained before it could spread further.

NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, visited the site alongside senior officials to evaluate the damage and ensure the welfare of the affected pilgrims. He ordered their immediate relocation to alternative accommodations upon their return from Mina.

Professor Usman expressed relief that no lives were lost and assured that NAHCON would continue working with tour operators to support and resettle the pilgrims. He also praised the swift actions taken by Saudi authorities and hotel personnel to control the situation.

The Commission has already inspected a new hotel and finalized relocation plans for the pilgrims once they return. Further updates will be provided as needed.
