Flood in Niger State Claims 21 Lives, Several Still Missing.
At least 21 people have died following a severe floo
d caused by heavy rainfall in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident occurred during a downpour on Wednesday night, leading to significant destruction in the area.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Ibrahim Hussaini, confirmed the fatalities during a briefing in Minna on Thursday. He said that rescue teams managed to save a woman and her two children, who are currently receiving treatment for injuries and trauma at Mokwa General Hospital.
So far, 21 bodies have been recovered, while more than 10 individuals remain unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
The flooding affected the Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities, where over 50 homes were submerged or swept away along with their residents.
Efforts to find survivors and retrieve more bodies are being carried out by NSEMA, in collaboration with local government officials, divers, and community volunteers.
