Former Chief Justice Mohammed Uwais Passes Away at 88.
Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais, has died at the age of 88.
His death was confirmed early Friday by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Dr. Kayode Ajulo.
Uwais served as the head of Nigeria’s judiciary from 1995 until his retirement in 2006. After leaving office, he was appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to lead the Presidential Electoral Reform Committee, which included notable members such as Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba.
Funeral details have not yet been released. Tributes from across the legal, political, and civil society sectors are expected in the coming days.
