Ganduje’s Resignation Part of APC’s Growth Process – Governors.

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the Progressive Governors’ Foru

m (PGF), have described the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, as a natural step in the party’s ongoing development and internal restructuring.

Following a two-day strategy meeting in Benin City, Edo State, the governors issued a communiqué stating that the leadership change reflects the APC’s commitment to reform and adaptability. The statement, delivered by PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, emphasized the Forum’s focus on strengthening unity within the party and advancing development across the country.

Uzodimma noted, “This meeting allowed us to align our strategies for development, reinforce party cohesion, and commit to governance that centers on the people, institutional accountability, and collaboration between government levels.”

He affirmed that the APC remains the most structured political party in Nigeria, citing its history of reforms, electoral victories, and promotion of national unity. Ganduje’s resignation, according to the governors, fits within this broader framework of internal reorganization and was presented as part of the party’s strategic progression, not as a sign of internal conflict.

A key moment in the meeting was the formal welcome of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to the APC. His defection, along with that of his supporters, was seen as a sign of growing nationwide support for the policies being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Forum also evaluated Nigeria’s current economic, social, security, and political conditions. They expressed satisfaction with improved coordination between the federal and state governments and commended key national priorities, including fiscal reforms, food security, energy development, infrastructure upgrades, and revitalization of social services.

A governor at the meeting, who spoke anonymously, highlighted the importance of this improved collaboration for national progress.

While acknowledging early signs of economic recovery, the Forum emphasized the need to ensure that growth becomes more inclusive. They advocated for increased investment in agriculture, job creation, poverty reduction, support for small businesses (MSMEs), and enhanced social protection.

The governors reiterated the crucial role of state governments in driving economic revival. They pledged to support further economic decentralization, aligning with constitutional provisions that promote shared governance and local empowerment.

They welcomed increased federal allocations to states and noted growing investor confidence, pointing out that many APC-led states are now attracting both domestic and foreign investments—an outcome they attributed to improved governance and business-friendly policies.
