Ghanaian Woman Killed by ‘One Chance’ Robbers in Abuja.

A Ghanaian woman,Freda Arnong, has died after being attacked by a ‘One Chance’ gang a term used to describe criminals who pose as taxi drivers to rob

unsuspecting passengers in Abuja.

Her brother,Arnold Arnong, shared details of the incident in a Facebook post, calling for justice and systemic reform to prevent future tragedies.

According to Arnold, Freda had just finished attending her house fellowship near the CBN Institute in Maitama on July 1, 2025, and boarded a taxi around 7:00 p.m. near Transcorp Hilton, unaware that it was operated by a criminal gang.

Freda was blindfolded shortly after entering the vehicle and brutally assaulted. The attackers demanded access to her mobile banking app. However, Freda was not tech-savvy, preferred in-person banking, and had lost her ATM card two weeks earlier.

Frustrated by their inability to access her funds, the assailants escalated the violence. When she offered to call her boss to transfer ₦10 million, they refused, threatening to mutilate her and sell her body parts instead.

They reportedly drove her around Abuja for several hours before dumping her near   Moshood Abiola Stadium at around 11:00 p.m. Injured and left on the roadside, Freda attempted to seek help, but passersby were too afraid to stop.

Eventually, a member of a local security group found her and took her to the National Hospital, Abuja.

Doctors later discovered that she had sustained multiple severe injuries, including broken ribs, lung and kidney damage, internal bleeding, and trauma to her eyes and heart. Despite medical efforts, she died at 3:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025.

Arnold described his sister’s death as the result of a failed system and asked when authorities would prioritize commuter safety and implement technology-based solutions to verify drivers and vehicles.

“Freda did nothing wrong her only ‘crime’ was living in a city where public transport is unsafe. How many more lives must be lost before action is taken?” he wrote.
“We need real-time driver and vehicle authentication systems. Freda must not die in vain. Her killers must be found. We must demand change and end ‘One Chance’ now.”
