Governor Alia: Benue Facing Serious Security Crisis.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has raised alarm over the worsening security situation in the state, describing it as a siege.

Speaking after Mass at the Chapel of Grace, Government House in Makurdi, Alia urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that safeguarding the state is a shared responsibility.

He reiterated his recent appeal for full federal support to combat ongoing attacks, saying, “If you hear something, say something.” According to him, those behind the violence have a clear agenda to occupy the land—something he condemned as completely unacceptable.

We are under siege. The attackers have a face and a mission. They come, drag people out, kill them, and try to take over our communities, he said.

Governor Alia also warned politicians against exploiting the crisis for personal gain and assured that efforts were underway to identify and hold accountable those contributing to the violence.

He firmly denounced all acts of terrorism and criminality, stating that such behavior would not be tolerated regardless of the perpetrator’s background. “A terrorist is a terrorist—criminality has no ethnicity or religion,” he stated.

Encouraging resilience among the people, Alia promised to do everything possible to restore peace. He also called for prayers for the victims of recent attacks in Ukum and Logo local government areas, especially during the Easter season, which symbolizes selfless sacrifice.
