Governor Okpebholo Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment in Edo.

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has restated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, saying that the state government has created a supportive environment and provided necessary tools to help young

people succeed across various sectors.

Speaking at the 2025 Edo Youth Impact Forum (EYIF), themed “Empowered Youths, Transformed Future”, the governor—represented by Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Umar Ikhilor—highlighted initiatives aimed at equipping youth with relevant skills. The event was held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City.

He said, “Our administration prioritizes youth empowerment and is creating avenues for them to thrive. This forum reflects our SHINE agenda, which seeks to build a brighter future by investing in young people.”

Governor Okpebholo noted that thousands of youths have been trained through the Edo State Skills Development Agency and announced the ongoing disbursement of a N1 billion interest-free loan, part of which targets youth entrepreneurs.

“This initiative is helping our people build wealth and enhance the state’s economy,” he added. “Today marks a turning point where new ideas and dreams are born—ideas that can reshape our future.”

The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Edesili Okpebholo, also spoke at the event, urging young people to identify and develop their talents while avoiding vices such as cultism, fraud, and sexual violence.

In his address, APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel encouraged youths to stay focused and resilient, saying Africa’s large youth population presents a unique opportunity for development.

Kizito Okpebholo, team lead of EYIF 2025, said the program originated from Governor Okpebholo’s vision and highlighted its success, including the “Hack the Future Challenge,” which produced several winners.

Winners of the challenge—Dr. Iyere Great, Prince-Will Okpe, Joseph Origho, Chidinma Aduba, and Oluchi Edozie—each received N2 million in seed funding, while five other finalists were awarded N1 million each to further develop their ideas.

The event also featured a masterclass led by industry professionals, including Metroman CEO Goldie Iyamu, content creator Oladapo Segun, and comedian MC Edo Pikin, who shared insights on using digital platforms to drive positive change.

Dignitaries present included the Commissioners for Information, Education, and Mining, members of the Edo State House of Assembly, permanent secretaries, and heads of various agencies.
