Governor Umo Eno Hints at Political Shift While Emphasizing Unity.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has once again hinted at a possible departure from the Peoples Democrati

c Party (PDP), suggesting a move toward a new political path, possibly the All Progressives Congress (APC), though he did not mention any party by name.

Speaking during a state banquet in Uyo on Thursday to mark his second year in office, Eno expressed continued affection for the PDP but indicated that it might be time for change.

I respect and love the PDP, but we all understand the current circumstances,” he told guests. “No matter where life takes me, I will always value the relationships we’ve built.

Although the governor has not formally announced a switch to the APC, he has shown increasing alignment with President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio in recent months, ahead of the 2027 elections.

If you invite me, I will come—I’ll always be present,” Eno added. “But it’s time to progressively move forward. That won’t affect how we govern. Our focus is not on party lines but on delivering for the state.”

He called on political leaders across all parties to prioritize the interests of Akwa Ibom. “We have citizens in every party—PDP, APC, YPP, IPAC. What’s most important is food security, safety, and welfare for our people. That’s what the ARISE Agenda is about.”

He closed with a call for unity: “Whenever anyone flies into Akwa Ibom, leave party politics behind—you’re arriving in a united state.
