Governors pledge safe yuletide

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has instructed state governments across the country to heighten security readiness ahead of the 2025 festive season, citing increased travel, crowded public events and rising safety concerns. The directive followed discussions at the forum’s eighth meeting held in Abuja, where governors considered security advisories from the Office of the National Security Adviser urging proactive measures during the yuletide. In response, the governors agreed to boost collaboration among security agencies, safeguard critical infrastructure and deploy visible security personnel in identified high-risk areas nationwide, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and incident-free festive period for Nigerians. The forum also acknowledged confirmation from the World Bank on the effectiveness of additional funding for the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus programme, paving the way for continued financial support to states for livelihood protection, food security, public works and resilience-building projects.
