How the Late Michael Ibru Helped Prevent a Food Crisis at RCCG’s First Convention — Pastor Adeboye.

During the July Holy Ghost Service of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye shared a powerful testimony about how the late business mogul, Chief Michael Ibru, played a crucial role during the church’s first convention.

Speaking at the Redemption City Arena in Ogun State, under the theme “Destined for Greatness – Part 3 (Helpers of Destiny),” Pastor Adeboye recalled a moment early in the church’s history when he invited members to attend the first convention at the newly acquired campground—despite having no money to provide the two meals he had promised.

“We were rich in faith,” he said with a smile. “I told everyone to come, and I promised to feed them, even though there was no money left.”

As attendance grew to around 3,000–4,000 people, the church ran out of funds. It was at this point that Chief Ibru visited the camp, noticed the large crowd, and asked how Pastor Adeboye intended to feed them. After hearing the plan, Ibru returned the next day with a container of fish. With no money to buy cows, the church used the fish to prepare jollof rice, ensuring everyone was fed. Pastor Adeboye described it as a clear act of divine intervention through a “helper of destiny.”

At a related event during the RCCG’s July thanksgiving and special prayer service in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye emphasized the importance of seizing divine opportunities. He warned that missed opportunities might never return, likening them to a man with hair in front and a bald head at the back—easy to grab as he approaches, but impossible to catch once he’s passed.

Broadcasting from Mount Carmel Prayer Village in Osun State, Pastor Adeboye prayed that attendees would not miss their moments of breakthrough, especially in areas of finance and life purpose.

Following the service, Pastor Oladele Balogun, RCCG Region 1 Overseer and Special Assistant to the General Overseer, urged national leaders to be more proactive in identifying and using opportunities, such as solar energy, to solve long-standing issues like electricity shortages. He also encouraged Nigerian youth to focus on building their future locally, rather than seeking solutions abroad.

“Success is not tied to geography. Many who left are struggling. The key is prayer, vision, and recognizing the opportunities God has placed around you—even in tough times,” he said.

Pastor Balogun noted how challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic prompted innovation and digital transformation, which had previously been resisted by many churches and businesses.

The service concluded with special prayers for entrepreneurs, job seekers, NYSC members, civil servants, and private sector players—asking for wisdom and clarity in identifying and embracing God-given opportunities for growth, both personally and nationally.
