On Tuesday, officers from the Nigeria Police and the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Operation Amotekun, took control of the CBEX office in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State. This followed an incident on Monday evening where disgruntled customers allegedly stormed the office in response to the collapse of the online financial platform, which reportedly led to the loss of millions of naira in investments.
Investigations revealed that the platform crash was announced earlier that day, prompting angry investors to break into the office and make away with some items. It was also gathered that many residents of Ibadan had invested substantial sums in the platform.
During a visit to the scene on Tuesday, the presence of police and Amotekun patrol vehicles was noted around the premises. An eyewitness explained that the security presence was to prevent further unrest after the crash announcement triggered outrage among investors.
Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comments were unsuccessful as of press time, while security vehicles remained stationed in the area.
