Jim Morrison Bust Recovered 37 Years After Theft.

French police have recovered a long-lost bust of Jim Morrison, the late frontman of The Doors, nearly four decades after it was stolen from his grave at Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. The sculpture, created by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin, had gone missing in 1988 and was recently found during a search related to a fraud investigation.

Authorities from the financial and anti-corruption division discovered the bust while executing a search warrant as part of the ongoing case. The statue was originally placed at Morrison’s gravesite in 1981 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death.

Jim Morrison died in Paris in 1971 at the age of 27. Though officially said to have died of cardiac arrest, alternate accounts—like that of French journalist Sam Bernett—claim he may have died of a heroin overdose at a Paris nightclub.

Morrison’s grave remains a major attraction for fans of The Doors, known for classic songs like “Riders on the Storm,” “Light My Fire,” and “The End.” In recognition of his cultural impact, Paris recently named a bridge near the Marais district—where he lived in his final days—after him.

The recovery of the bust is a notable moment for fans and cultural historians, restoring a long-missing piece of Morrison’s legacy.
