JUST In: Pope Francis Passes Away at 88 — Vatican

Pope Francis has died at the age of 88, the Vatican announced on Monday. His passing occurred just a day after he made a long-anticipated appearance at Saint Peter’s Square during Easter celebrations.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell delivered the news through a Vatican statement, saying, “With deep sorrow, I announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.” He confirmed that the Pope passed away at 7:35 a.m. (0535 GMT).

Throughout his life, Pope Francis remained devoted to serving the Lord and the Church.

His death follows recent health challenges. Earlier this year, he suffered from pneumonia and was hospitalized for 38 days before being discharged on March 23. Despite his condition, he appeared on the balcony of Saint Peter’s Basilica on Easter Sunday, waving to the crowd and offering blessings. During his traditional “Urbi et Orbi” message, he advocated for freedom of thought and greater tolerance.
