Kano Holds Funeral Prayer in Absentia for Late Businessman Aminu Dantata
A funeral prayer in absentia (Salatul Ga’ib) was held on Saturday in Kano for ren
owned businessman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away in Dubai on Friday at the age of 94.
The prayer took place at Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in Kano and was led by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas. The event drew thousands of mourners, including dignitaries such as Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.
Sheikh Khalil explained that Salatul Ga’ib is performed when a Muslim dies outside their home country or in a location where traditional funeral rites cannot be held. He praised Dantata as a devout Muslim, generous philanthropist, and community leader known for his humility and service.
Aminu Dantata was a key figure in Nigeria’s private sector, expanding his family’s business into a diverse conglomerate with investments in construction, manufacturing, agriculture, finance, and oil and gas. He was also widely respected for his charitable efforts, having supported the construction of schools, hospitals, mosques, and community centres throughout Northern Nigeria.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, his burial will take place in Madina, Saudi Arabia, in line with family arrangements.
