Kizz Daniel Calls Fola the Future of Nigerian Music in New Interview.
Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel has praised emerging artist Fola, calling him “the future of Nigerian music”. The statement came as Kizz Daniel discussed his latest EP, Unkle K (Lemon Chase).
The singer revealed that the project was born out of a major setback his workstation crashed, resulting in the loss of over 600 songs, including those for his planned Unkle K album. In response, he quickly recorded a new set of tracks to replace the lost material, naming the project Lemon Chase to reflect turning adversity into creativity.
I was supposed to tour with the original album, but after the crash, I went back into the studio and created new songs. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade—and that’s exactly what we did,” Kizz Daniel said.
The 7-track EP features collaborations with artists like OdumoduBlvck and Bella Shmurda, who both appear on the emotionally charged track Al Jannah. Kizz Daniel described the song as a tribute to loved ones he and others have lost, including his son in 2021, his father in 2015, and his wife’s mother in 2024.
Fola also makes an appearance on the EP, and Kizz Daniel had high praise for him: “He’s amazing. I used to call him ‘The Future.’ Nigerian fans call him ‘Striker – number 9.’ He’s an incredible artist.”
The EP has received praise for its originality and strong Afrobeats identity, resonating well with fans and critics alike.
Mayorkun Drops Third Studio Album, Still The Mayor, Featuring Davido and Fireboy
Nigerian music star Mayorkun has released his third studio album, Still The Mayor, featuring guest artists Davido, Fireboy, King Promise, Rotimi, and others.
Released on June 13, 2025, the 12-track album includes the previously dropped single Reason 2 Japa, which touches on the social and economic struggles pushing young Nigerians to seek better opportunities abroad. The song’s lyrics, layered over Amapiano rhythms, highlight frustrations with the country’s leadership and lack of opportunities.
Still The Mayor follows Mayorkun’s 2023 EP Love For Free and earlier albums Back In Office and his debut Mayor of Lagos, which cemented his place as a consistent hitmaker in the Afrobeats scene.
With this new release, Mayorkun continues to solidify his reputation for blending sharp lyrics with catchy melodies, aiming to reaffirm his status as one of Nigeria’s leading musical voices.
