Labour Party Condemns Benue Killings, Demands Military Action and Investigation.

The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, calling for the immediate deployment of military forces to protect vulnerable communities across Nigeria’s

North Central region.

In a statement issued on Monday, Senator Nenadi Usman, acting National Chairman of the party’s Caretaker Committee, described the attacks as a “new wave of senseless killings” and demanded a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible regardless of their social status or political connections.

According to the party, over 100 lives have been lost, including women, children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and security operatives. Homes and livelihoods have also been destroyed.

These were not just numbers—they were real people,” Usman stated. “Children who should have been protected were slaughtered. Mothers were buried in mass graves. Fathers defending their homes were brutally killed.”

She emphasized that the violence marked by burnt villages, ambushes of security personnel, and repeated attacks on IDP camps illustrates a serious failure of government in protecting its citizens.

The scale of bloodshed in Benue is a national disgrace. The attackers act boldly, while victims are left helpless. This speaks volumes about the absence of effective leadership and accountability,” she added.

Beyond military intervention, the LP called for a comprehensive humanitarian response to support survivors with food, shelter, medical care, and trauma counseling.

Senator Usman urged citizens not to remain silent or accept the violence as normal. She appealed for decisive action, noting that inaction only encourages further violence.

To the bereaved families, especially the widows, orphans, and devastated communities your suffering is felt across the country. We stand with you, and your demand for justice will not be ignored,” she said.

The Labour Party pledged continued advocacy for policies that prioritize security and dignity for all Nigerians, particularly those in underserved or conflict-ridden areas.

“We cannot continue down this path. Enough is enough,” Usman concluded.
