Liverpool Announces Departure of Seven Academy Players.

Liverpool Football Club has confirmed the exit of seven players

from its Academy following the expiration of their contracts at the close of the 2024/25 season. The departures are part of a broader restructuring underway at the club.

Among those leaving is 22-year-old midfielder Dominic Corness, who spent part of the season on loan at Gillingham and previously played in Switzerland with Yverdon-Sport.

Three goalkeepers—Jakub Ojrzynski (22), Reece Trueman (20), and Jacob Poytress (21)—are also departing. All three have primarily served as backup options and training support for both the Under-21 squad and senior team.

Versatile defender Lee Jonas, aged 20, exits the club after struggling with injuries. In addition, 18-year-old defenders Louis Enahoro-Marcus (centre-back) and Harry Evers (left-back) are also leaving the Under-18 setup.

The exits come amid major changes at Anfield, including the sales of first-team players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher, and the signing of right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool is also reportedly in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

Despite the departures, the club has offered new contracts to eight promising Academy players: defenders Wellity Lucky, Terence Miles, and Emmanuel Airoboma; midfielders Michael Laffey and Kyle Kelly; and forwards Keyrol Figueroa, Ranel Young, and Kareem Ahmed.

Changes are also expected in coaching staff at the Kirkby Academy, with U18s coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson stepping down. U16s manager Lewis Nightingale is among those being considered to take over.

This marks the second consecutive year of significant Academy departures. In 2024, 11 players were released, including senior team members Joel Matip, Thiago Alcântara, and Adrian—two of whom retired, while Adrian returned to Real Betis.

Several of last year’s Academy exits have since joined new clubs, such as Mateusz Musialowski (Omonia), Melkamu Frauendorf (Hannover), and Adam Lewis (Morecambe).
