M.I Abaga Reflects on His 2015 Support for APC, Admits Mistake.
Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, known as M.I, has acknowledged that supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in th
e 2015 elections was a mistake. Speaking on the Menism podcast, he explained that his backing of APC was driven by disappointment with the then-governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he saw as corrupt.
He said, “Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt the PDP government was very corrupt. I was among those who spoke up to bring about change.”
However, M.I now believes that APC has failed to meet expectations and no longer aligns with the values he once supported. “No matter how much you try to be right, you can be wrong sometimes. Unfortunately, APC isn’t the party I dreamed of,” he admitted.
The artist shared that he has since moved away from online political debates, focusing instead on practical contributions to nation-building. “I don’t complain on social media anymore, not because I’m unaware of the issues — I understand them well,” he said, referencing criticism he received after commenting on herdsmen attacks in Benue.
M.I emphasized the importance of young people taking initiative, particularly in the creative industries. “I work in the creative sector, which can empower millions of youths. If the country doesn’t provide enough jobs, that doesn’t mean I can’t create opportunities,” he stated.
