Massive Drone Strike Hits Kharkiv, Ukraine’s Second-Largest City.

At least three people were killed and 17 others injured in what officials are calling the largest Russ

ian drone strike on the city of Kharkiv since the beginning of the war. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the overnight assault involved 48 drones, two missiles, and four gliding bombs.

The attack caused extensive damage, striking multiple residential high-rise buildings. Video footage shows one of the buildings engulfed in flames across several floors.

This incident followed another large-scale assault the night before, during which six people were killed and 80 injured across Ukraine. That previous attack involved more than 400 drones and nearly 40 missiles.

Russia has claimed its actions are a response to recent attacks by Ukraine, which it labeled as “terrorist acts” by the Kyiv government. Moscow asserted that its strikes targeted military facilities.

The latest Russian escalation came just days after Ukraine launched a series of drone strikes against Russian air bases deep inside Russian territory. Ukraine’s security agency, the SBU, stated that its operation—code-named “Spider’s Web”—hit at least 40 Russian aircraft.

Ukraine said it deployed 117 drones for that mission. These drones were reportedly smuggled into Russia inside wooden cabins mounted on trucks, hidden beneath remotely operated roofs. The vehicles were driven to locations near the air bases by individuals who were apparently unaware of the payloads. The drones were then launched remotely.

Responding to the developments, U.S. President Donald Trump commented Friday night that Ukraine had “given Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them.”

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 and continues to cause widespread devastation.
