Lionel Messi once again showcased his brilliance by scoring a remarkable free-kick goal in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over FC Porto at the FIFA Club World Cup in Atlanta.

Trailing at halftime, Inter Miami equalized just minutes into the second half. The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Messi curled a precise free-kick into the top corner, beyond the reach of Porto goalkeeper Claudio Ramos.
Messi’s Insight
Speaking to FIFA after the match, Messi shared his thought process behind the goal:
“I noticed the goalkeeper was positioned centrally and quite close to goal. That made it difficult to shoot over him, but I saw space near the post he wasn’t covering well. I aimed for that spot and fortunately, it went in.”
Team Outlook
Messi also reflected on Inter Miami’s performance and what the team is proving on the world stage:
“We’re showing that we came here to compete. Porto is a strong European side, and we held our own. Our young players were nervous in our last match, but today we improved and played with more confidence. It was a slow start, but we turned things around in the second half.”
Looking ahead, Messi acknowledged the challenge of their next opponent, Palmeiras:
“They’re a great team, and it’ll be another tough game. But we’ll stick to our style and do our best to win.”
