Meta’s Threads Testing Spoiler Text Feature, Zuckerberg Confirms.
Threads, Meta’s microblogging app, is currently testing a new feature that allows users to mark te
xt or images as spoilers, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
This feature hides selected content by default—graying it out—so readers must click to reveal it. Spoiler text is commonly used on platforms like Discord and Reddit to prevent plot details from being accidentally shared with those who haven’t seen a movie, show, or read a book yet.
Meta says the feature not only improves the user experience but also encourages more conversations around entertainment without the risk of spoiling content for others. The company pointed out that hit shows like The Last of Us and The White Lotus often trended on Threads, signaling a growing community of pop culture enthusiasts.
Beyond entertainment, spoiler tags could be used to hide content that may be sensitive or unpleasant for some users—such as minor injuries or personal updates that aren’t graphic but could still be uncomfortable to see.
Currently, the feature is in a limited test phase. For users who have access, content can be marked as a spoiler by highlighting it before posting and selecting the “mark spoiler” option from the menu. A full rollout date has not yet been announced.
