Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Mocks Senate President Akpabio with Satirical Apology.

Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has made waves with a satirical apology posted on her official Facebook page, aimed at Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In her post, she sarcastically apologized for the “crime” of maintaining dignity and self-respect within the Senate, suggesting that success in the Senate under Akpabio’s leadership seemed more dependent on personal compliance than merit.

Akpoti-Uduaghan further accused Akpabio of making inappropriate sexual advances, which she claimed led to her suspension. She implied that rejecting such advances violated an unwritten code that favors certain men’s entitlement.

Her apology read, “I deeply regret my failure to recognize that success in the Senate is apparently achieved not through merit but by giving in to personal demands. My refusal to indulge your requests was a violation of the laws governing ‘quid pro quo.’ I apologize for prioritizing competence over capitulation.”

The suspended senator pointed out that her actions disrupted what she called the natural order of things, and she humorously bowed her head in “fictional shame.”

  Background of the Suspension

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate on March 6, following recommendations from the ethics committee. The suspension stemmed from alleged misconduct during a February plenary and her refusal to adhere to the Senate’s seating arrangement. Additionally, her office and security aides were withdrawn, and she was prohibited from entering the National Assembly during the suspension period.

The Senate indicated that the suspension could be lifted if she submitted a written apology. On March 11, Akpoti-Uduaghan appealed to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for intervention, claiming her suspension was politically motivated to silence her for exposing misconduct in the Senate.

At the IPU meeting, she raised sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio. While the IPU president acknowledged the concerns, she stated that the Nigerian Senate would be given an opportunity to present its side before any action was taken.

  Government Investigation

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s participation in the IPU meeting triggered a government investigation, as she had not followed proper diplomatic procedures for attending the meeting. Nigerian authorities questioned how she gained access to the IPU event without official nomination.

Despite the investigation, Akpoti-Uduaghan maintained that her accreditation was legitimate, as she had registered online and was listed as a past attendee.

As her suspension continues, the situation has sparked widespread discussion over her treatment and the conduct of the Senate leadership.
