Ndume Refutes Report Claiming Buratai Was Attacked.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has denied reports suggesting he claimed that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, narrowly escaped a Boko Ha
ram attack in Borno State last Friday.
The reports, which circulated following Ndume’s appearance on a national television program, were described by the senator as inaccurate and a misrepresentation of his comments.
In a statement, Ndume clarified that it was Buratai town, not Lt. Gen. Buratai himself, that was attacked. Buratai, the former army chief, hails from the town bearing his name in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Ndume explained:
Two days ago, there was an attack on Buratai town, near the operations base. The soldiers responded, but unfortunately, the attackers managed to destroy some of our assets. It’s become common for them to destroy equipment like Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs), tanks, and heavy-duty weapons. Occasionally, they also seize some of them.”
He emphasized that at no point did he say the former Chief of Army Staff was directly targeted or involved in the incident.
